Peter Gabriel 4: Security

**** Peter Gabriel's remastered album "Security" continues to resonate with audiences even decades after its initial release. Thematically rich, the album deftly explores the dichotomy between ancient spiritual practices and the loneliness of modern life, as evidenced in tracks like "Rhythm of the Heat," which focuses on African religions, and "San Jacinto," which draws from Native American mythology. Gabriel displays a knack for intricate songwriting, combining evocative lyrics with innovative soundscapes—a characteristic of his work that remains strong in this remastered version. Listeners note that while the album has not aged poorly, some lyrical choices reveal Gabriel's limitations as a wordsmith. For instance, "The Family and the Fishing Net" features less impactful lines, such as the phrase “headless chickens,” which somewhat detracts from its overall effect. Moreover, the second half of the well-known track “Shock the Monkey” has been criticized for its repetitive nature. Despite these flaws, fans appreciate the outstanding musical arrangement, particularly the contributions from bassist Tony Levin, whose unique sound enhances the listening experience. Many reviews emphasize that while "Security" may not be Gabriel's magnum opus, it stands out during a particularly creative period in his career. His ability to integrate elements of 'world music' into rock is a hallmark of this album, with tracks like “I Have the Touch” showcasing his vocal prowess and perceptive lyricism. The remastered version, in particular, enhances these elements, making them fuller and more immersive. Thus, "Security" is a strong recommendation for both longtime followers and newcomers to Gabriel's music, solidifying its position as an essential piece of rock history. **
