Format: DVD DVD Editorial Review
This British caper film has garnered a niche appreciation from audiences who relish an engaging heist storyline intertwined with emotional depth. The premise revolves around a devoted father, portrayed as a brilliant yet down-on-his-luck computer expert, who is thrust into a precarious situation when his son is kidnapped by a gang. The film is marked by an ingenious twist at the conclusion that has left viewers pleasantly surprised. Despite critics giving it a lukewarm reception, the film shines in its quirkiness, complemented by memorable characters and sharp dialogues that contribute to its charm. The performance of Bernard Hill stands out, capturing the essence of his character—a flawed, yet relatable individual grappling with addiction while reluctantly diving into the world of organized crime. This character depth combined with a well-crafted plot ensures that the film resonates with viewers, making it a beloved addition to the heist genre. While some reviews highlight the film's slightly dated aspects and a definite issue with sound quality, overall, it is Considered among the best bank heist movies. Many viewers have expressed their disbelief at its absence from popular streaming services like Netflix, indicating a strong desire for broader accessibility. The film is celebrated as a hidden gem with an enduring appeal that invites repeat viewings.
