Atari Games Editorial Review
** Yars Rising for Nintendo Switch** Yars Rising is a refreshing reboot of the classic Atari franchise, successfully transitioning from its original shooter format to a modern 2.5D Metroidvania-style game. Developed by WayForward, known for their expertise in creating engaging platformers, this iteration pays homage to its roots while introducing new gameplay elements that captivate both long-time fans and newcomers alike. Visually, the game boasts polished graphics with a vibrant color palette that evokes nostalgia through its retro-inspired design, while also appealing to a contemporary audience. Players appreciate the variety of levels and enemies, making the gameplay diverse and engaging. The incorporation of boss fights requires players to utilize strategy and precision, adding a thrilling challenge to the overall experience. A standout feature is the character progression system which includes both major and minor bio upgrades, enhancing gameplay depth and customization. The hacking mini-games are an enjoyable nod to the original gameplay mechanics of Yar's Revenge, providing both a satisfying challenge and a way to unlock additional content. Despite its strengths, some players express a desire for more content or a more elaborate story arc, pointing to the game’s relatively shorter playtime and limited replayability as potential drawbacks. Nevertheless, for fans of the arcade genre and those seeking a quick, enjoyable gaming session, Yars Rising effectively delivers a fun experience that marries classic vibes with modern sensibilities. **
