- Dans La Crise du monde moderne, René Guénon propose une analyse des déséquilibres et des contradictions de la civilisation contemporaine. Publié en 1927, cet ouvrage examine les causes et les conséquences de ce qu'il perçoit comme une dégénérescence des valeurs traditionnelles face àl'emprise du matérialisme et de l'individualisme. Guénon commence par décrire l'âge sombre, une époque marquée par la perte de repères spirituels et la domination de la pensée rationnelle sur la connaissance sacrée. Il explore ensuite l'opposition entre l'Orient et l'Occident, soulignant les différences fondamentales dans leur vision de la vie et de la connaissance. L'auteur critique la primauté de l'action sur la connaissance, une caractéristique qu'il attribue àla civilisation occidentale moderne. Il distingue entre science sacrée et science profane, plaidant pour une réintégration des principes métaphysiques dans la compréhension du monde. Guénon dénonce également l'individualisme croissant, qu'il considère comme une source de chaos social et de désintégration des structures communautaires.
