- Born in Poitiers, France, in 1926, Michel Foucault is a philosopher and a man of action who devoted himself to freedom with both his thoughts and life. Perhaps the best way to understand him is the following statements he uses in interviews: “The main purpose of life and work is to be who one is not in the beginning” and “each of my books is my life story”. Foucault would certainly have been extremely uncomfortable with the characterization or judgment of himself and others by being placed within any categorical framework, but when we attempt to explain it, the most appropriate adjective we can find would still be the Historian of Thought Systems, whom he used.There are three main concepts that completely dominate Foucault's intellectual life. His analyzes are made in three separate periods, the ones related to “thought systems”ne are determined by archaeology, the ones related to “forms of power are determined by geneology, and the ones related to ” self-care“are determined by ethics.
